Denmark plays a crucial role as a logistics hub in Northern Europe, thanks to its strategic location between Scandinavia and Germany. With a well-developed infrastructure, including the Øresund Bridge and a direct land connection to Germany, Denmark offers excellent transportation options.
The region of Sjælland, with Copenhagen as its economic center, continues to attract residents and businesses due to strong growth in employment, infrastructure, and quality of life. This development creates interesting opportunities for logistics and commercial investments in the region.
The Fehmarn Belt Tunnel is a large-scale infrastructure project that will connect Denmark and Germany and is expected to be completed by 2029. At 18 kilometers in length, it will be the world’s longest immersed tunnel and Denmark’s largest infrastructure project. The tunnel will provide a permanent link for both rail and road traffic, significantly improving the transport corridor between Germany, Denmark, and Sweden. This will increase logistics efficiency and make the region even more attractive for international trade and transport.
Once operational, the tunnel will reduce freight train travel times between Hamburg and Copenhagen from over four hours to approximately 2.5 hours. Road transport, currently dependent on ferries, will become much faster, with the ferry crossing being replaced by a tunnel journey of just 10 minutes. Alongside the Øresund Bridge, the Fehmarn Belt Tunnel will further strengthen Northern Europe’s infrastructure, positioning Denmark as an even more central logistics hub. By reducing dependency on ferry services and improving transport efficiency, the tunnel will contribute to increased trade and economic growth in the region.
